The company now occupies a 0.55 acre site in the industrial area of Tilbury, providing excellent access to the M25 motorway and the docks. The company has an annual turnover in excess of £6.75 million and maintains its progressive policy by continual investment in upgrading its processes and advancing the quality and skill of its staff, drawing upon the specialist skills of its Chairman.

The policy of Specialist Metal Services is to recycle all precious metals in a manner that provides maximum return, whilst satisfying the clients disposal requirements and having due regard to protecting the environment.

Originally established for the trading and recycling of precious, high value and rare earth metals, SMS soon became the leading UK in-house processor of electronic scrap. With a customer base covering scrap metal merchants, electronics manufacturers, computer brokers, computer dismantlers and financial institutions material is sourced world-wide.

The advantages of bringing several operations under one roof soon became apparent and as a result, SMS can undertake the removal. teardown and precious metal recovery from complete computer systems, in addition to the treatment and refining of all industrial by-products.

The guaranteed destruction of a manufacturers product is a primary requirement of some of the contractual processign we undertake. Our secure precious metal storage area is available for safekeeping of sensitive material prior to treatment.

The recycling of components not requiring destruction has become an important aspect of the company's activities. SMS will purchase excess obsolete or unsaleable printed circuit board assemblies and IC's. The integrated circuits are then removed and sold into the appropriate technology applications around the world. This not only increases the return to the customer but also contributes to the presvation of world resources.

We at SMS have a firm and genuine commitment to the preservation of the environment. Our processes are registered under Part 1 of The Environmental Protection Act (1990) which imposes a duty constantly to monitor and report all emissions and waste products.

Sound investment in high-tech fume arrestment and scrubbing, coupled with strict adherence to the latest C.O.S.H.H. regulations enables SMS to reduce to the absolute minimum and adverse effect upon its employees, the public and the natural environment.

Constant reassessment of risk ensures continued development of good management techniques in relation to human well-being.
